Community Service

September 2009 - At our regular meeting we'll have a Back to School Night Supplies drive.  We will be collecting school supplies to fill 8 backpacks.  Please consider donating pens, pencils, scissors, crayons, markers, folders, and glue sticks.

October 2009 - Placemats  will be collected for our annual donation to Meals on Wheels.  Prizes will be awarded for the most fall, the most festive, and the most placemats made.  Use a standard size placemat and also please do not use any embellishments that will cause things to spill.  Any questions please call or email Julie Borden.

Note:  The placemat collection was a huge success!  We collected over 60 beautiful placemats.  And the winners:  Ruth Skinner who made the most at 20, Roberta Whitcomb for the beautiful Maple Leaf, Lucy Rhoda for the most festive.  Here are the pictures:

Meals on Wheels Placemats

Placemats can be 16  to 18 inches long and 11 1/2 to 13 inches wide.  They can be rectangular, octagonal, or oval.  They can be pieced or appliquéd.  Please do not use any 3-D embellishments.  Placemats should be quilted.

Plain basic placemats or those with a special holiday theme are a wonderful way to say "we care!" to those served by Meals on Wheels.
Lap Robes
Simple lap robes 45 by 60 inches are wonderful for patients at Cedarbrook and the Phoebe home.  They may be pieced, quilted, or tied.  Using a thin batting they may be backed with flannel.

Here's a photo of some of our Community Service projects.  Enjoy!
