Redwork

By Judith Vadney

Tuesday, October 2

This program for October is a trunk show of Redwork from the collection of Judith Vadney of Canadensis, PA.  Judith is fascinated with Redwork and its history and, since 1989, she has amassed a collection of over 100 pieces.  Redwork or "turkey work" was introduced in the US during the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia.  Popular until 1930s, Redwork is enjoying a revival today.

Learn more about Redwork at our October meeting.

Holiday Auction of Handmade Gifts
Tuesday, December 4
Our December program will be the popular Holiday Handmade Auction.  Bring a handmade item to donate to this holiday program where our own Jane Grove will be the auctioneer.  Items that were well received last year were pin cushions, clocks, pillows, garments, scarves, baskets, table cloths, runners, cookies and fudge - just to name a few.  Bring a friend to share in the fun.  Remember that prizes will be awarded to the member who brings in the most items and to the member whose work brings in the most money.

Lady Liberty Workshop
by Karen Stone
Tuesday, April 1, 9am to 4pm
Author, teacher, lecturer, and award-winning quilter, Karen Stone, will be conducting a workshop on April 1st.  Her quilts have won numerous awards, including 1st prizes in international competitions, and  her works have appeared on the covers of Quilters' Newsletter Magazine and several catalogs.  Her "Indian Orange Peel" quilt received the People's Choice Award at Quilt National In 1995.  She has also appeared on Simply Quilts.

Karen's sense of color us unparalleled and her designs are dazzling.  The project we will be working on is entitled "Lady Liberty."  Learn Karen's techniques for fabric selection and for paper foundation piecing to make easy work of this seemingly difficult design.  We will also learn curved piecing and have a drafting lesson.
